Leaf Cutter Ants

This month, we have completed one third of our program year. Recently, we have had a few events take place. Firstly, we had our fall day where we visited the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal. We spent a few hours exploring exhibits and I personally spent a few hours being too blind to see the fine print and often times too lazy to get an inch away from it to see it. I do not remember everyone’s favorite part but Betka loved the historical area with a little town and John was honored to have been in the same room with items that had been in space decades ago. Personally, my favorite area was the children’s museum because children going shopping in make-believe stores with their carts full. They adorably didn’t realize it would actually cost $300 to do so as an adult, not 2 dollars. After a few hours there, we had Thai food and followed it with an escape room. As you can see, we escaped.

 Ultimately each person is crucial.

Just last week we visited the Zoo lights and the lights were beautiful, especially without glasses because you can’t see the bulbs. I think as a group we spent most of our time staring at ants moving through a tube. It sounds underwhelming but it’s interesting to see insects so content and busy with doing nothing other than piling up leaves for their entire life but, if we’re being honest, they’d probably say the same thing about us sometimes.

There’s a lot in life that is repetitive and mundane but that’s why finding the beauty in the little moments and finding purpose in what we were created to do keeps us going. Obviously we aren’t leaf-cutter ants, but we all have different jobs and ways of doing life – in and outside of work. Ultimately each person is crucial. We need the ones jumping to cut the leaf, the ones who feel more comfortable taking the leaf back through the tunnel strategically, and you can’t forget the ones watching over it all, guiding, passing along wisdom and a lending hand when others need it. We’re all here, doing different jobs, being different people, but working toward the same thing. We are neighbors helping neighbors.
